Dove CE Academy Curriculum Intent

Our vision is to create a safe, caring, nurturing community where everyone can grow and flourish. We are a caring and loving school family. The children feel safe and valued and are aspirational about their future.

At Dove CE Academy we believe that firm foundations in Early Years are fundamental in developing a love of learning, independence and confidence which will be skills pupils draw on throughout their learning journey. The Early Years’ curriculum covers the knowledge and skills to prepare pupils for Year 1.This is achieved through offering a stimulating environment which inspires imagination, creativity, resilience and perseverance through play, exploration and guided activities. We deliver topics which engage and inspire our pupil’s in order to develop their knowledge and understanding; whilst opportunities for child initiated provision are valued.

Our curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. Our broad curriculum allows all children to find areas of interest and expertise in which they flourish and their accomplishments are celebrated. We teach the children about our local area, covering more familiar topics and the wider world, opening up new opportunities and experiences. Our sequential curriculum is knowledge rich and designed to help pupils to know more and remember more.

We want our pupils to be confident communicators, as such our curriculum provides many opportunities for speaking and listening. We focus on teaching specific vocabulary and topic specific terminology. Phonics and early reading is a significant focus of our curriculum in EYFS and KS 1. We want our pupils to develop a love of reading through the sharing of high quality texts in order to promote further literacy skills.

As an inclusive school we teach our pupils about our wonderfully diverse world, celebrating all cultures and respecting other’s differences, beliefs and practices. We celebrate the uniqueness of everyone as children of God. Through our Christian values and curriculum we teach pupils to become good citizens in a global society.

We strive for every child to be confident, adaptable, critical thinkers who grow and flourish in a rapidly changing world. We want to give our pupils first hand experiences in order to broaden their horizons. Our ‘Dove Enrichment Experiences’ enhance our curriculum by giving pupils the opportunity to explore social, moral, spiritual and cultural aspects of life. We aim to provide pupils with opportunities outside of their normal experience.

It is our aim to create firm foundations for future learning, for our pupils to have the skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education and beyond. We want to prepare them for later life, giving them the confidence and aspiration to achieve their dreams.
