WELCOME TO DOVE CE ACADEMY

At Dove we provide a safe, caring, nurturing community. Providing firm foundations rooted in the Christian faith. Inspiring all to grow and flourish.

Our Christian values; Kindness, Respect, Honesty, Perseverance, Self-control and Forgiveness run through everything we do and are the basis for the personal development of our children.

We have close links with St Michael’s Church welcoming Rev. Liz to lead worship once a week and the school lead a number of celebration services in the Church throughout the year.

Although we are housed in a large building, inside we still have the ethos and atmosphere of a small village school. We develop close relationships with children and their families working together to further children’s learning. Our school is a welcoming and inclusive community where all members are respected and valued. Children are kind and caring towards one another and have positive attitudes to their learning.

Early Years

From our very youngest pupils we value children’s individualities and encourage them to grow and flourish through varied and challenging opportunities. We follow topics throughout the year which provide many first hand experiences for children to develop their learning. We also use a range of stories to develop early English speaking, listening and writing skills. We incorporate children’s interests from home into school and through this we are able to deliver a child-led curriculum for learning.

To facilitate this we use an on-line learning journal to which parents have access and can send in images or videos of their child and we can incorporate these into children’s individualised learning, this ensures that we have a holistic view of each child and their interests and progress.

Alongside our own dedicated outdoor area for children in the Early Years, Robin’s class have full access to the outdoor facilities of the school site and make the most of the extensive space and facilities we have available to extend learning beyond the classroom.

Enhancing the curriculum

As well as offering a broad and balanced curriculum we believe it is important to provide a range of extra-curricular activities to enable all to grow and flourish.

During their time at Dove children learn to play the recorder and the violin, as well as joining in with a range of musical activities and performances in the school, local Church and in collaboration with other schools.

We are developing a forest schools approach to learning and encourage children to make the most of our outdoor environment.

The outdoor learning experiences we provide develop children’s reflective and inquisitive thinking alongside first hand experiences of problem solving in real situations. We have found children develop a love, appreciation and respect for nature. They notice and comment on their environment and the changes they observe within it. They also show an understanding of how we can look after our environment now as well as considering sustainable lifestyles.

Sport

Our excellent sporting facilities enable us to cover a broad range of sports as part of our curriculum.  We have a large hall with built-in climbing equipment and a smaller hall which we use for dance and gymnastics. Our all-weather pitch allows us to play team games such as football and basketball whilst we use the large field for athletics, cricket and rounders. Children are encouraged to take part in physical activity every day. Play leaders organise games and activities at lunchtimes and we offer a variety of after school clubs including sporting activities which may be outside of children’s usual experience e.g. fencing, archery and non-contact boxing.

Our P.E. lead has effectively used the Sports Premium Funding to provide staff with up to date training and ensure we have the best resources and equipment to deliver our extensive P.E. curriculum. We celebrate and encourage the sporting achievements of children outside of school and encourage physical activity with our ‘Sports Selfie Wall’. Children regularly participate in competitive sporting events within school and in inter-school competitions, this teaches children valuable lessons about teamwork and fair play. We strongly encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
