Special Educational Needs
At Dove CE Academy we try to ensure that everyone is treated fairly. All children are given equal access to the school and its curriculum and all at Dove CE Academy are considered equal in the learning partnership. When children have special needs we make arrangements to inform parents and design specific programmes.
We take advantage of the flexibility of the National Curriculum to teach the programme of study for each subject in ways which are appropriate to the children’s needs and abilities. We strive to ensure that all children enjoy equality of opportunity in all subject areas.
Where a child experiences difficulty, the class teacher along with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator will plan a programme to help overcome the problem. We view the education of the child as a partnership between home and school and we welcome the active participation of parents in any programme of work set. Children are supported within their own class, or withdrawn to work in small groups, by our team of learning support staff. If you have any concerns about your child then you are welcome to come into school to discuss your concerns with the Special Needs Co-ordinator or the Headteacher.
Our code follows the code of practice for pupils with Special Needs and we keep a register of children at the different stages of assessment. Children with a statement of Special Needs have an individual programme, which is monitored and reviewed by staff and parents.
To ensure all children receive the best possible education the Governing Body agree a set of equality objectives each year. These form part of the school development plan and the priority is to use the pupil premium to ensure low attaining pupils make at least 2 sub levels of progress each academic year.
The objectives for this academic year are outlined below:
- To raise attainment of pupils in receipt of free school meals
- To provide free music tuition for all key stage one and two children
- To provide families with opportunities to find out how they can support their child’s learning.
